A career retrospective for the Salinas-based artist, the Crocker Art Museum is currently showcasing "David Ligare: California Classicist."
David Ligare's still life, landscape, architectural, and figurative paintings will be on tour, stopping at Laguna Art Museum, Georgia Museum of Art, and Triton Museum of Art, but will remain at Crocker Art Museum through September 20th. David Molesky details further:
"Ligare looks to the ancients for guidance and references the formal relationships found in Classical sculpture and architecture. And yet, his paintings are firmly based in the specifics of California—and the Monterey region in particular, allowing Ligare to create art that is richly layered, broadly universal, and yet specifically of our time and place.” [via Juxtapoz]
